Try these September Lakeland events with your senior loved one.

Summer is winding down, and fall is fast approaching. It's prime time to ensure that your senior loved one is able to get out into the community. In our work as home health care providers, we see daily the power of positive community interactions for our senior clients. That's why we make a point to encourage every one of our caregivers to take their senior clients out into the community for some social interaction. Try these events going on in September in Lakeland with your senior loved one.

- Lighthouse Ministries' Labor Day Barbecue, 9/4, 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM, 117 E. Magnolia St., Lakeland, FL 33801

 Lighthouse Ministries’ Labor Day Barbecue will be held on Monday, September 4, 2017 from 11:30AM until 1:30PM at Lighthouse Ministries’ Men’s Gospel Rescue Mission located at 117 E. Magnolia St., Lakeland, FL 33801. This is an outreach to our neighbors. All are welcome to come and enjoy the food, fellowship, and fun. Admittance is free and is open to the public.

Chair Yoga from 3 pm to 4 pm every Monday, taught by Joyce Hasenzahl. This yoga session is a slower-paced class, focused on relaxation. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and shoes (no shorts or tank tops).

-2017 Healthy Aging & Wellness Fair, 9/7, 9:00 AM - 2:00, Calvary Baptist Church, 1945 N. Florida Ave

Please join us for a healthy aging and wellness information, education and resources fair. Includes, Free Health Screenings, Interactive Booths Educational Sessions, Caregiver Resources, Lunch refreshments (proceeds supporting Calvary Youth). Some highlights include Learning Experiences, SHINE Medicare Counseling, Virtual Dementia Tour, Memory Mobile, Chair Massages, Spinal Checks, Bone Density, Blood Glucose Check and much more.

- Point of View Gallery Talk: Dr. Alex Rich, 9/8, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM, Polk Museum of Art

Join us for Point of View Gallery talks every second Friday of the month at noon. Dr. H. Alexander Rich is the Curator and Director of Galleries and Exhibitions, an Assistant Professor of Art History and the Director of the Art History program at Florida Southern College. Dr. Rich is a specialist in Modern and Contemporary Art History, with a particular focus on European and American art of the 19th and 20th centuries. He earned his Ph.D. in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and his A.B. from Dartmouth College. This month, Dr. Rich will lead visitors through the show and discuss the history and legacy of Rembrandt's Academy. By looking closely with visitors at the 16 works in the exhibition, he will explore why these works are so important, the ways in which "Rembrandtian" style has impacted more recent art, and how this exciting exhibition itself came together. The Downtown Farmers Curb Market is a key component of a vibrant, diverse and exciting Downtown. It is designed to serve and bring together all segments of our community. It is a positive force in bringing people Downtown to purchase fresh produce, plants and local handcrafted items. The 11-month Market (closed in August) is a showcase for the talents and the work of local artisans and local growers. The Downtown Farmers Curb Market is a project of the Lakeland Downtown Development Authority (LDDA).

Join our Creative Yoga class every third Friday for a truly inspirational experience. Dedicated yoga practitioner Michelle Pugh will guide you through an hour long hatha-based class that will end with a meditation focused on our current exhibition. Our classes are a community format so that all ages, sizes, and levels of experience will feel comfortable. Practice will vary to increase diversity in your practice. Modifications are always offered. Please arrive early as space is limited and bring your own mat and blanket if possible.

Southeastern University welcomes Richard Corcoran, Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, as our special guest on this day of national heritage celebration. In addition to taking questions from the audience, Speaker Corcoran will share his views on the importance of constitutional government and how it applies to his position in the state legislature. Southeastern University’s College of Arts & Media is proud to host a stellar performance series throughout the 2017-2018 school year featuring notable guest artists from around the nation, as well as our talented students and faculty.
